Food insecurity is not just about hunger. It is a serious health risk.
Food-insecure older adults are:
💠19% more likely to have high blood pressure
💠71% more likely to have congestive heart failure
💠74% more likely to have diabetes
💠64% more likely to have experienced a heart attack
Nearly 14 million older Americans are threatened by or experiencing hunger. The impact goes far beyond an empty plate. It increases hospitalizations, worsens chronic conditions, and puts independence at risk.
Nutritious meals do more than satisfy hunger. They support heart health, stabilize blood sugar, and help seniors remain healthy at home.
Right now, too many seniors are waiting for the nutrition and care they need. Together, we can help #EndTheWait.
Please donate today and be part of the solution. www.allentownfoodbank.org ... See MoreSee Less

Did you know the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank participates in Retail Recovery programs with stores throughout the Lehigh Valley? 🛒
Past-date doesn't mean past its prime! Much of this food is still perfectly edible and delicious — and by recovering it, we're able to reduce food waste in our community while putting nutritious meals on the tables of those who need it most. 🌱
A win for our neighbors. A win for our community. A win for our planet. ♻️
Thanks #giantfood, #ALDI, #wegmans, #redners, and #starbucks🍽️ It's Food Rescue Friday!
92 billion pounds of surplus food are produced in the U.S. every year. That’s more than enough to help support the 47 million neighbors facing hunger, including 1.7 million of our neighbors here in Pennsylvania, but much of it never reaches the people who need it most.
This is why our network rescues fresh produce, dairy and protein and delivers it quickly and safely to regional food banks and pantries. Stay tuned for more #FoodRescueFriday stories, updates, and more!
